EU-IoT, a Coordination and Support Action of the Next Generation Internet (NGI) initiative, is the organiser behind a number of the sessions held at IoT Week. These sessions gathered leaders from the worlds of business, technology and science to shed light on the future of the Internet of Things (IoT) and business models at the Edge and to share their views on how the technology can serve society better and how we can cope with the technological and societal challenges of today.
In the recent decade, digital technologies have begun unlocking new business opportunities and with that new business models. A prominent example is servitization, which is seen as a key concept changing a large number of industries from product to service driven businesses. In this session, the next wave of business models those enabled by IoT and edge computing is explored. Results from the H2020 Large Scale Pilot projects, one of the largest investments by the European Commission in this field, provides mature examples from research and industry in Europe and beyond.
Significant tendencies in the future of business modelling are touched upon in the session moderated by Mirko Presser, Centre Deputy Director of DBD and associate professor at the Department of Business Development and Technology, Aarhus University. Three of Europe’s leading internet innovators and business model experts join the debate:
This session allows viewers to learn about the impact of IoT and Edge computing technologies and to gain insight into future priorities across multiple areas, such as business innovation drivers, trust and data sovereignty, decentralized technologies and new research methods.
The purpose of the session is to stimulate discussion and promote the creation of next generation business models as well as synergies between innovators, researchers, developers, politicians and civil society actors.
The Next Generation Internet (NGI) initiative, launched by the European Commission in the autumn of 2016, aims to shape the future internet as an interoperable platform ecosystem that embodies the values that Europe holds dear: openness, inclusivity, transparency, privacy, cooperation and protection of data. The NGI will drive this technological revolution and ensure the progressive adoption of advanced concepts and methodologies spanning the domains of artificial intelligence, Internet of Things, interactive technologies and more while contributing to making the future internet more human-centric.
EU-IoT is a Coordination and Support Action (CSA) to the NGI Initiative, launched in the autumn of 2020. The CSA is a European IoT Hub, aiming to grow a sustainable and comprehensive ecosystem for the Next Generation Internet of Things. EU-IoT acts as an accelerator for the whole European IoT ecosystem towards transforming the current IoT community of researchers and innovators in Europe into an increasingly cohesive, dynamic, participatory and sustainable ecosystem, as an essential part of the Next Generation Internet initiative. It assists stakeholders to engage and create value, as well as set up a self-sustaining European IoT community.
