The MidtVest Maker Fest (MVMF) promoted and supported maker culture and its communities by bringing them together with institutions, businesses and civic organizations from Western and Central Jutland for a joint celebration.
The event took place under the open sky, nearby Aarhus University in Herning, between the 22 and 24 of September 2022. Makers in terms of students, companies, municipality representatives, entrepreneurs and tool makers gathered to celebrate making good craftsmanship with new technologies.
More than 200 makers stopped by MVMF to participate in the activities held in our green maker forest and in our labs. Concept development, 3D scanning, 3D printers, laser cutters, virtual reality, robot programming and drone flying are only some of the technologies that were explored. We also delved into how Danish businesses can use maker skills in the development of new business models and create a more sustainable product design. The inspiring atmosphere of the event was eternalized in snapshots that you can enjoy a selection of here.
The regional-based network is at the heart of our event, and it has been exciting to see the local makers exchange experiences and share new knowledge and inspiration with a new generation of makers.
However, MVMF was not only held to celebrate the maker culture, but also with the intention of using the event as data input for the research we conduct at the Interdisciplinary Centre for Digital Business Development (DBD), as a prototype of ‘event-making’ with a network of stakeholders, and as a foundation for establishing a better understanding of the maker community and its potential in the MidtVest region.
MVMF has been an educational event for DBD that created a professional and inclusive environment for networking and connecting with other makers. We are very grateful to all of you who showed interest and participated.
MVMF was organized by DBD’s PROTO*Lab and BTECH, the Herning department of Aarhus University, and is an outcome of collaboration between local partners and their dedicated efforts to support maker culture and its communities:
In addition to the official Western and Central Jutland partners, MVMF took place under patronage of Velux, Bravida, AUHE Erhvervsklub, Tuborg Fondet and the European Horizon 2020 project EU-IoT.
MidtVest Maker Fest 2022 has been a successful prototype of a networking event, which we have ambitions to scale up and repeat in the coming years!
